Practical Information

Below, you'll find key practical information about our domes, preparing for installation, and the assembly process.

Anchoring and Foundation

At NJORD, we want you to get the most out of your outdoor space for as long as possible. That is why a stable and properly prepared foundation is essential.

If the ground is flat and stable, we recommend using ground spikes for anchoring. This solution is simple, leaves minimal impact on the site, and requires very little preparation. Other options include point foundations, timber decks, or concrete slabs – depending on your preferences and the ground conditions.

Please note:
We're happy to advise on the best solution and share insights from past projects. We can also provide technical drawings to support your groundwork preparations. However, it's important to emphasise that preparing the site is the responsibility of the client.

Assembly

VWe always recommend professional installation – and in most cases, we carry it out ourselves. This ensures that your dome is assembled correctly and securely from the beginning.

To guarantee a good result, the surface must be flat and stable before installation begins. Without proper groundwork, the dome cannot be mounted. If you're unsure about your site, don't hesitate to contact us.

Permits and Approvals

When investing in a NJORD dome, it is important to clarify which permits may be required prior to installation. The customer is responsible for investigating and obtaining all necessary permissions.

For institutions such as nurseries, schools and businesses, specific regulations often apply. These vary by country and municipality and may include:

Building permits:
Depending on the size and location of the dome, a permit from the municipality may be required.

Playground approval:
If the dome will be used by children, some municipalities require it to be approved as part of the playground – meeting relevant safety standards.

Soil and environmental regulations:
Ensure the dome will not interfere with underground pipes, cables or other infrastructure.

Engineering calculations:
If the dome is to be mounted on a rooftop, you may need certified structural calculations to verify the load-bearing capacity of the roof.

Site Survey

The placement of your dome is key to its functionality and aesthetic integration. At NJORD, we offer online site surveys to help you make the best decision.

Through the survey, we assess how the dome fits into its surroundings – considering size, terrain and orientation relative to light and shade. This gives you a clear sense of how the dome will work in your specific setting.

Maintenance

Our domes are designed for low maintenance, so you can enjoy your space with peace of mind. To preserve the clean appearance and ensure optimal clarity, we recommend cleaning the dome 1–2 times a year – just like a traditional greenhouse or orangery.

Cleaning

For effective and gentle cleaning, we recommend the following approach:

  1. Use a mild soap mixture – soft brown soap dissolved in lukewarm water.

  2. Apply the soap with a soft brush or sponge and let it sit for around 15 minutes to loosen dirt and algae.

  3. Rinse thoroughly with water from a hose or a pressure washer on a low setting.

Avoid cleaning agents that contain alcohol or solvents, as these can damage the acrylic panels.
